French Farmhouse Dreaming

Roosters and chickens in the kitchen say French Farmhouse to me. Probably because I wish I had one. The French kitchen, and the farmhouse in France to go with it.

Since that's not going to happen (I'm not going to say 'never'), I'm going to set the mood for it instead.

The right table cover lays the foundation. My rooster needs a bit of red to go with it, so I've laid one of my vintage plaid favorites underneath. It's nice and thick and layers nicely. The deeper tones make a good contrast for the whites I'm using.

My vintage enamel ware pitcher has just the right touch of black as an accent color.

Recent linens drape in a vintage grapevine basket next to an antique transferware platter.

I was recently delighted to find a set of wooden farmhouse animal figures. In addition to ducks, geese, and chickens, there are larger farm animals as well. I'm going to enjoy decorating with them in a variety of ways. In the meantime, they were a big hit at granny camp!

An antique grain scoop seems to have a natural place on this table. It may actually have provided corn for a few barnyard creatures!

I've also featured an old grain sack from New York with my linens to round out the theme. I wish it was from France! I'll have to scout out one of those soon.

Thanks for dreaming along with me!
I'm joining Shelia at Note Songs for the Roosters and Chickens party!

Au revoir & Ciao! for now!

  1. Hello Jacqueline,
Your roosters are beautiful! I only have one, and I'm showing it at Shelia's link party too.
I also like that old grain scoop. My grandparents back in Ukraine had similar ones.
    Have a nice week!

  2. Jacqueline... I'm dropping by from Shelia's party, and I'm so glad I did. Those wooden farm animals are ADORABLE. Oh, those are cute! And I love the black and white roo and hen, too. Lots of neat things in this post.

Happy Cockadoodledoo to you (chickenspeak is the international language, so it means the same in English and French!)...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  29. What a darling post. I am loving all the chickens that everyone is sporting. I took all my chickens to the store to sell, but then I'm so behind the times, I didn't even know there was a chicken party going on. I have enjoyed yours ~ as always your posts inspire me to be more creative with my items.
